Jackson Lake Island (Big Fish movie set) Spectre

Jackson Lake Island (Big Fish movie set) Spectre

Where? Cypress Lane, Millbrook, Al 36054 on Jackson Island

Trail Length? No trail. Just a cool movie set surrounded by a lake.

How hard are we talkin’? Anyone can enjoy this place. The old, the young, the handicapped, it’s nice and flat.

Can you swim there? The Alabama River feeds into this lake. I’ve seen people fish and boat here, but I’ve not seen anyone swim. It’s a lake so I guess you can, but keep in mind there are a lot of dead trees in the lake. You can see them sticking up all over the place. There is a beach area that allows you to wade in, but I personally give it 2 sketchy thumbs pointing slightly downward.

Details and tips? This is the movie set from the movie Big Fish. Several of the buildings were torn down years ago due to storm damage, but it’s still a really cool place to visit. You have to have a code to enter the gate to the island.  You get a code by calling them (334-430-7963). You also have to pay a 5$ fee to get in. You put your money in an envelope by the front gate, and drop it in a drop box just like you do at many state parks. There are real live goats on this island-lots of them! They’re pretty friendly and you can pet them if you want. It’s a GREAT place to go boating or kayaking with kids. Many people camp here and you can too! There are trailer hook-ups on and around the island. There is also a pavilion you can rent for events. People get married here. There are reeeeaaallly long concrete tables that could potentially be used for catering.
