Larkinsville in Jackson County Alabama
Where? This is on private property off of Co Rd 17 in Larkinsville, Alabama. Parking: 34.6884301 -86.1221108. Swimming hole: 34.6887603 -86.1235186
What is it? It’s a cold, blue swimming hole flowing from an underground spring inside a horizontal cave.
Are we allowed to go here legally? As of 5/29/19, the answer to that questions is yes. I spoke with the property owner and he allows people to enjoy this one-of-a-kind swimming hole. He asks that there be no motorized vehicles on the property and no glass containers. He is very, very kind! Be sure to thank Mr. Simmons if you see him.
Is it a popular spot? You bet. The property owner said an entire senior class visited his swimming hole for senior skip day this year and the place was overflowing with people. Sounds fun!
Is it a long walk? Nope. Right off the side of the road. You can almost see it from where you park.
Can I bring my dog? Please don’t. There isn’t enough room for your favorite canine friend to be jumping in, chasing a ball and shaking all over everyone.
Is it kid friendly? I suppose that depends on who is there and what you consider kid friendly.
Leave no trace: It’s likely that you’ll see someone else’s Dr Pepper bottle sitting on the beach, but please take out all of your trash anyway. What if I told you that your cigarette butt is also trash and that it doesn’t go on the ground? It’s true.
